At Shiru we believe that food should be delicious and nourishing without negatively affecting our planet. Acknowledging our growing global population as well as the imminent effects of climate change, Shiru’s mission is to create better protein ingredients that will catapult us into a sustainable food future.
With our mission in mind, Shiru makes high quality, functional food proteins through better leveraging our precious environmental resources. To do this, we employ technologies originally created to solve problems in adjacent industries, including computational biology, machine learning, and industrial fermentation and bioprocessing.
We apply computational intelligence to find the most functional natural food proteins in the world, harnessing the inherent ability of microflora to produce them. We then partner with food and beverage companies to incorporate these unique protein ingredients into everyday products. Shiru is now expanding our team of dedicated professionals across multiple disciplines to make enhanced protein ingredients for a better world.
We’re looking for folks who have tremendous passion, grit, and integrity; and who are going to help us in creating a more sustainable and secure food system. We are a small and scrappy startup and we’re looking for the kind of individual whose experience and mission-alignment stand out since this person will impact our company from Day One.
You will have ownership of a slate of assignments that will be shaped by evolving business priorities, and have a high degree of visibility to our executives and likely to external parties as well. The successful candidate will be comfortable both debating strategic issues with business leaders and rolling up their sleeves to execute on tasks at an operational level.
Sample projects could include building industry research, evaluating business opportunities and market landscape, conducting investor due diligence, developing and updating financial models, creating infographics and visuals, drafting internal and external communications, and organizing events.
You must be comfortable owning work-streams with little supervision, from the scoping phase to gathering requirements, proactively providing regular status updates, analyzing data, synthesizing findings, and presenting results. This may involve networking and interviewing technical and non-technical stakeholders to learn processes, understand requirements, test hypotheses, or secure buy-in. The role reports to Shiru’s Chief of Staff. Cross-functional stakeholders include many of our Commercial/GTM, Finance, People, and R&D team members.
At Shiru, we’re looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description. We’re expecting your skills and passion to stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns. Please join us in this singular opportunity to create the future of food!
