We are excited to welcome Libby Kirk to our team as a Laboratory Technician.
Shiru’s mission is to feed people sustainably by leveraging machine learning and precision biology to identify and create ideal food proteins. As Shiru goes through a rapid growth phase, Libby will help us accelerate our ingredient characterization process.
Libby recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Biology, Health, and Society as well as Earth and Environmental Science. Throughout her college experience she was drawn towards lab based classes and enjoyed getting hands-on experience both in typical laboratory classroom settings and in a field-based course outside of Jackson, WY.
Libby is currently enjoying getting her feet wet and honing in on her lab skills as a Laboratory Technician. At Shiru, her work will focus on supporting and improving laboratory operations, as well as running several assays to enable new ingredient discovery.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the team at Shiru! I have always wanted to work at a company that focuses on the intersection of molecular biology and sustainability, and Shiru’s work targets just that. Food is an essential part of everyone’s life, so it is exciting to see how we can maximize sustainability in our food choices- starting with sustainable ingredients.”
Outside of her time in the lab, you can find Libby outdoors whether that be surfing, backpacking, playing ultimate frisbee, or reading a good book.
