We are excited to welcome Mariana Suguieda to our team as a Laboratory Technician.
Shiru’s mission is to feed people sustainably by leveraging machine learning and precision biology to identify and create ideal food proteins. At Shiru, Mariana will help us accelerate our ingredient purification process.
Mariana received her BS in Plant Science from the University of Florida in 2019. During her studies she specialized in plant health as a way to contribute to sustainability efforts in traditional agriculture. After graduating, Mariana worked at the Vegetable and Field Crop Pathology Lab at UC Davis as a lab assistant focusing on plant disease diagnostics. She worked alongside California farmers, farm advisors, and scientists to better protect California’s significant crop production. As she joins Shiru’s team, Mariana’s focus will shift from traditional agriculture to alternative food proteins by assisting in our ingredient purification process and supporting lab operations.
“While I loved working directly with plants and agriculture, I am so excited to work with a groundbreaking team aiming to build a more sustainable food system through machine learning, molecular biology, and precision fermentation. Shiru’s focus on discovery and innovation matches my passion for revolutionizing the food industry so I am excited to see Shiru’s impact on the future of food.”
Outside the lab, Mariana is often rock climbing, teaching yoga, taking dance classes, or spending time in the sun.
