We are excited to welcome Tim Powers to our team as Associate Engineer of Lab Operations.
Shiru’s mission is to feed people sustainably by leveraging machine learning and precision biology to identify and create ideal food proteins. As Shiru grows our lab operations, Tim’s broad skill set uniquely positions him to be our swiss army knife engineer and help Shiru tackle all intricacies of our process.
Tim has five years of independent contract work where he developed a broad technical skill base working in app development, IT, digitizing analog systems, web design, math and science tutoring. Prior to contract work, he started a career in sustainable foods working with a locally owned pressed juice company. Tim started at Shiru over a year ago in a Lab Technician role and has enjoyed returning to his roots in food.
Tim studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego where he learned programming, CAD, machining skills. He specialized in electromechanics in an internship designing custom control consoles for heavy machinery. He furthered his experience in electromechanics in a senior research project where he designed a moisture content probe for composting.
“I really love working with grateful and friendly people and that’s what you’ll find at Shiru. Everyone here always has a smile on their face and is willing to help out with anything, it makes it easy to show up and give your best effort.”
Outside of work, you can find Tim doing Yoga, investing, 3D printing, and spending time with his family.
